The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Headquarters is an 11-story, 287,500-square-foot facility that encompasses office, conference, and retail spaces.

Designed by Shalom Baranes Associates, the headquarters features an open-space floor plan intended to foster communication and collaboration.

Sustainable design strategies are integral to the project, with approximately 75% of the building's roof area covered by extensive green roofing.

The LITEFLAM XT90 system was incorporated to meet strict fire code requirements while contributing to the building's sustainability goals.

PROJECT CHALLENGES

Balancing Historic Preservation with LEED Gold Standards

Incorporating four historic commercial structures into the new development required careful structural modifications and restoration to preserve early 1900s masonry.
Achieving LEED Gold certification necessitated the implementation of energy-efficient systems and extensive green roofing.
Integrating fire-rated glass flooring that meets stringent fire safety standards without compromising design aesthetics.
