The Shiley Hall project at the University of Portland involved renovating the existing School of Engineering building and expanding it with a three-story, 35,000-square-foot addition.
The design preserved the historic 1948 façade by utilizing salvaged masonry and introduced new wings that frame a dramatic three-story, glass-walled gallery.
The building incorporates sustainable features such as natural ventilation, daylighting, occupancy sensors, a green roof, radiant heating and cooling systems, and a fire-rated glass floor. These innovations contributed to Shiley Hall achieving LEED Platinum certification and earning a Grand Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies.
